Initial Consultation for Autism Assessment

The ASD initial consultation is the first step in the assessment process. Before the appointment, you will be asked to complete some questionnaires to help us better understand your experiences.

During the initial consultation, a clinician will talk with you about your reasons for seeking an ASD assessment and ask a range of questions about your background and current difficulties. This session also allows us to explain the different parts of a formal ASD assessment, answer any questions you may have, and ensure this pathway is the right choice for you.

Following the initial consultation, the clinician will determine whether a full ASD assessment is recommended at this time. In some cases, a formal assessment may not be indicated or it may be more appropriate to wait until a later stage. If this is the case, the clinician will discuss this with you and advise on next steps.
